ALOHA NEIGHBOR

The majority of residents living in District 26 are struggling to keep up with Honolulu’s high cost of living. The majority of working families are living paycheck-to-paycheck, and slipping further into debt. Meanwhile, our current Representative struck a deal that will allow corporations to continue paying poverty wages.

This August, voters in our district have the opportunity elect a new representative who will put the needs of working people first: a livable wage, truly affordable housing and fully-funded quality public education.

I grew up a few miles mauka of District 26 and attended schools in Makiki, Moiliili and Kaimuki. I went away for college and moved back home after graduating from law school in 2000 to care for my mother after she had a debilitating stroke.

My career in Hawaii has focused on serving our community: as a public-interest attorney for low-income families, an advocate for our public schools and as a small business owner who puts people before profits.

In 2004, I bought my home on Birch Street from the Mita family, who owned the property since the 1940’s. Over the years, my home has been rented long-term to other local families; the most recent family moved out in 2019. This year, my family moved back home so I could continue to fight for working families in our district.

Please join our fight to reclaim our democracy. Let’s register our family members, our neighbors, our communities to vote in the August Primary Election.

Together, we can hold government accountable to working people - not just corporations and out-of-state investors.

In Solidarity,Kim Coco
